Shirley Chiu paints slowly and deliberately, with great patience. A former ballerina, Chiu employs images of dancers as well as animals and plants. Most often a solitary object with a single-color background, her spare compositions allow her to focus on detail, with every element of the piece carefully considered and depicted.
