John Martin (JMa 392)

An open multitool with a large wrench in the center is cast against a blank background. The piece is an ink drawing, but it also has a sculptural sensibility in its emphasis on pulling objects together. Its rough lines have a cartoonish energy, offset by numerical labels that recall an engineer's diagram. Martin's work pays patient, clever tribute to mundane material things.
